Coal India Ltd. launches new software for enhanced assessment of coal resources
  • Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal has launched a new software named Spectral Enhancement SPE which will help in identifying thin coal seams under the earth crust and improve assessment of coal resources using seismic survey during coal exploration process.
  • The launch of SPE software assumes significance as the present seismic survey techniques for coal resource exploration have limitations in identifying the thin coal seams under the earth, which will now be possible as this new software helps in enhancing resolution of seismic signals leading to delineation of thinnest coal seams.

NAL's Hansa-NG aircraft takes to skies in maiden flight
  • Hansa New Generation trainer aircraft designed and developed by CSIR-NAL in Bengaluru has successfully made its maiden flight yesterday. The aircraft took off from HAL airport in the city and flew at an altitude of 4000 feet and gained a speed of 80 knots before making a successful landing after about 20 minutes.
  • National Aerospace Laboratories NAL has designed, developed the two-seater trainer aircraft, the Hansa New Generation (NG) trainer successfully. The aircraft will be certified within the next four months before being inducted into service.

  • Vartika Shukla became the first-ever woman to head state-owned project consultancy firm, Engineers India Ltd.
  • She took over as the new chairman and managing director of Engineers India Ltd., the company said in a statement.
  • Prior to her elevation, Shukla, 55, was Director (Technical) in EIL.
  • She will have tenure till February 2026.
  • She has led to the successful completion of many prestigious projects for clients in oil and gas and petrochemical industry both in India and overseas.

The Prime Minister will launch Indian Sign Language Dictionary- an audio and text embedded sign language video for the hearing impaired in conformity with Universal Design of Learning, Talking Books which is audio books for the visually impaired and School Quality Assurance and Assessment Framework of CBSE.

PM Modi's approval rating is 70%, highest among 13 global leaders
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has topped a global approval rating leaving behind all contemporary Heads of State and Heads of Government. According to a survey conducted among all adults, PM Modi received a stellar approval rating of 70 per cent, while Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was second with 64 per cent and Italy Prime Minister Mario Draghi was number three with 63 per cent. German Chancellor Angela Merkel ranks 4th with 52 per cent and US president Joe Biden is at number 5 with 48 per cent.
  • As per the intelligence firm, its ratings are based on a seven-day moving average of adult residents in each country.

  • The Information and Broadcasting Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Mahmud will be inaugurating the ‘Bangabandhu Media Centre’ at the Press Club of India (PCI) in Delhi on Monday, 6 Sept.
  • The ‘Bangabandhu Media Centre’ at the PCI will be set up with the support of the Bangladesh High Commission in India. The PCI and Bangladesh High Commission have taken this initiative jointly to mark the birth anniversary of the founding President of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
  • The MoU will be signed by Minister (Press) of the Bangladesh mission Shaban Mahmood and Secretary-General of the PCI Vinay Kumar on behalf of their respective sides.

China tries overland trade route through Myanmar
  • China has carried out its first trial run of a new overland trade route through Myanmar in a move seen as a show of support for Myanmar’s Military Junta which is largely isolated at the world stage following capturing power in a February coup. Local media citing a report by state-owned media said that the route’s announcement comes as Beijing appears to be bolstering its ties with the ruling Myanmar junta following a recent visit to Myanmar by its special envoy.
  • The first trial of the China-Myanmar corridor took place last month, which involved a cargo of around 60 containers being sent by road from Yangon, a major Indian Ocean shipping hub, to Chin Shwe Haw on the border with China.

  • The three-day long 28th edition of Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise SIMBEX concluded on Saturday.
  • The Indian Navy was represented by Guided Missile Destroyer INS Ranvijay with a ship borne helicopter, ASW Corvette INS Kiltan and Guided Missile Corvette INS Kora and one P8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
  • Participants from the Republic of Singapore Navy included one Formidable Class Frigate, RSS Steadfast, embarked with an S-70B naval helicopter, one Victory Class Missile Corvette, RSS Vigour, one Archer Class Submarine and one Fokker-50 Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

  • The 130th edition of the Durand Cup kicked off today at the Vivekananda Yubabharati Krirangan in Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee kicked the ball and inaugurated the tournament.
  • State’s Sports Minister Arup Biswas was also present at the event.
  • Mohammedan Sporting Club started their campaign in the tournament with an emphatic win against the Indian Air Force Football team.
  • 16 teams are playing in this edition of the oldest club football tournament in Asia while two renowned clubs of Kolkata, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are not participating.

  • Japan bid adieu to Paralympic Games with a glittering closing ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on Sunday.
  • The ceremony began with a montage of shots of the Games, followed by music and dance performances. The concepts for the Closing Ceremony were “Harmonious Cacophony” and “Moving Forward”. The closing ceremony conveys that Tokyo is “A City Where Differences Shine”.
  • Ahead of the athlete parade, the Japanese national flag was brought into the venue and the national anthem of the country was played. It was followed by the parade led by flag bearers of different countries in Japanese alphabetic order. Shooter Avani Lekhara was the flag bearer of Indian contingent.

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today conferred AICTE- Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Award on 17 faculty members in Engineering and Technology at a function in New Delhi.
  • Three faculty members were awarded the AICTE-Dr. Pritam Singh Best Teacher Award in Management Education. The Minister also conferred Chhatra Vishwakarma Award and Clean and Smart Campus Award, 2020 to the selected institutions.
  • Congratulating All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for instituting these 4 awards, the Minister said that apart from recognizing the efforts of the Teachers, these awards have also brought the spark for innovation.
